Schoology App Login
The official app is Schoology by PowerSchool Group LLC, free for iPhone, iPad and Android. Students usually tap Sign in through my school; parents with their own account sign in with their email or username.
Getting the official app
The official app is called Schoology and its publisher is PowerSchool Group LLC. It is free on the Apple App Store and in Google Play (search for "Schoology" and check that the publisher is PowerSchool Group LLC). Before you install any app, check the publisher name; look-alike apps may try to collect passwords.
Don't confuse it with PowerSchool Mobile, a separate app for districts that use the PowerSchool student information system for grades and attendance.
Student sign-in in the app
- Open the Schoology app.
- Choose Sign in through my school.
- Search for your school by name and select it. Columbia Public Schools, for example, tells students to search for the district's name in the app (Columbia Public Schools).
- Sign in with your school account on the Google, Microsoft or district screen that appears.
Parent sign-in in the app
Parents with their own parent account sign in with the email or username and password they created. Several district guides note that a brand-new parent account may need to be created in a mobile web browser at schoology.com first, then used in the app. If your district gives parents access through its parent portal instead, follow your district's instructions.
QR code login
If your school has turned on QR code login, young students can sign in with a printed code from their teacher. Choose the QR code option in the app, or Scan QR Code on the web page, allow the camera, and hold the code inside the frame. Schoology's documentation says schools enable this for chosen roles and buildings and that it does not work with single sign-on (Schoology Support).
Keep QR codes private. Anyone with the code can sign in as that student. Ask the teacher for a replacement if one is lost.
What the app can't do
The app is handy for notifications, messages and checking work, but it doesn't always offer everything the website does. Some districts ask students to use a web browser for assignments, tests or video lessons. If something doesn't work in the app, try the same task in a browser before contacting your school.
App troubleshooting
- Update the app and your device's operating system.
- Sign out and back in, making sure you choose the right school.
- Wrong Google account? On a phone or tablet, the app may use the Google account signed in to the device's browser. Sign out of the wrong account in the browser, then reopen the app.
- Forgot your password? Parents reset it in a browser at
app.schoology.com/login; students ask their school.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Schoology app for Chromebook or Windows?
On a Chromebook or computer, use Schoology in a web browser such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. That is the full version. We don't recommend installing Android emulators to run the phone app.
Is the PowerSchool Mobile app the same as the Schoology app?
No. PowerSchool Mobile is for districts that use the PowerSchool student information system (grades, attendance, schedules). The Schoology app is for the Schoology learning platform. Your district may use one, both or neither.
Why does the app ask me to find my school?
Most school accounts use single sign-on, so the app needs to know which school's sign-in page to show you. Search for your school or district by name and pick it from the list.
