Schoology Parent Login

Parents get their own Schoology account, separate from their child's. Your district decides how: with a Parent Access Code from the school, through the district's parent portal, or with an account the district creates for you.

Three ways parents get access

Your district decides which of these models you use. If you're not sure, your school's website or front office can tell you.

Signing up with a Parent Access Code

A Parent Access Code links your new parent account to your child. Districts that use codes describe them as 12 characters in the format xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (Livermore Valley JUSD). You get the code from your child's school or teacher, not from Schoology.

  1. Get your child's Parent Access Code from the school or a teacher.
  2. Go to the official sign-up page at app.schoology.com/register.php.
  3. Choose Parent and enter the access code.
  4. Create your account with your own name, email and a new password.
  5. Next time, log in at app.schoology.com/login with that email or username.

Round Rock ISD notes that once your account is linked, it stays linked in later school years, so you don't need a new code each year (Round Rock ISD).

Logging in through your district's parent portal

Some districts don't use parent codes. Instead, you sign in to the district's own parent system and open Schoology from there.

  • LAUSD: parents set up a Parent Portal account first, then reach Schoology through it (LAUSD). See our LAUSD guide.
  • Fairfax County Public Schools: parents use their SIS Parent account to log in to Schoology (FCPS).

In this model, password resets also go through the district's portal, not Schoology.

When the school creates your account

Some districts create parent accounts automatically from the email address in their records. To get in the first time, you use Forgot your password on the official page with that email and set your own password. Fort Bend ISD works this way: parents need a Skyward Family Access account, and the district says the "forgot password" route is the quickest way to get their Schoology login (Fort Bend ISD). See our FBISD guide.

Adding more children

In access-code districts, each child has their own code. After you sign in, open the menu next to your name and choose Add Child, then enter that child's code. In portal and auto-created districts, all your children usually appear automatically if they are linked in the district's records.

What parents can and can't see

A parent account is separate from your child's account. You switch into a view of your child's courses, assignments, calendar and teacher messages. What you see depends on the district and on each teacher's settings.

  • Fort Bend ISD describes parent access as "view only" and says Skyward remains the official record for grades.
  • Seattle Public Schools says parents can view courses, assignments and calendars but cannot take quizzes, download textbooks or join class conversations (Seattle Public Schools).

Check official grades in your district's student information system (for example Skyward, Infinite Campus, Focus or PowerSchool SIS).

Forgot your password?

  • You created your own parent account: choose Forgot your password on app.schoology.com/login and enter the email you signed up with. Check your spam folder for the reset email.
  • You sign in through a district portal: reset the password in that portal.
  • No reset email arrives: PowerSchool's community team advises contacting your school's Schoology administrator, who can fix account issues directly.

Use your own login, not your child's. Some districts recommend that each parent and student use their own account, because teachers sometimes share information only with parents or only with students.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my child's Schoology login?

You shouldn't. Your child's account belongs to your child, and parents get their own account with a parent view. Using separate logins also means you see parent-only messages. Ask the school how parents get access in your district.

Do I need a new access code every school year?

Usually not. Once your parent account is linked to your child, the link normally carries over. Round Rock ISD, for example, says previously connected accounts stay linked. You only need a new code to add another child.

Why doesn't my Parent Access Code work?

Check that you chose Parent on the sign-up page and typed all 12 characters, including the dashes if shown. Codes can also be the wrong type (a course code instead of a parent code) or belong to a different school. If it still fails, ask the school for a new code.

Can parents use the Schoology app?

Yes. Once you have a parent account, sign in to the official Schoology app with your email or username. Several districts note that a new parent account may need to be created in a web browser first. See our app login guide.
