How to Get a Schoology Account

You get a Schoology account through your school or district, not by signing up on your own. Students and staff receive accounts from the school; parents create or receive a parent account in the way their district has set up.

Accounts come from schools

Schoology Learning is sold to schools, districts and other organizations. Since October 1, 2023, PowerSchool has offered it only at the enterprise (organization) level, so there is no public sign-up for students or teachers (PowerSchool Community). Families don't pay for it; the school does.

Students

Your school creates your student account and adds you to your courses. Ask your teacher, school library or help desk for your username and how to sign in. Our student login guide explains the common routes.

Parents and guardians

Parents get access in one of three ways, depending on the district: by signing up at app.schoology.com/register.php with a Parent Access Code from the school, through the district's parent portal, or with an account the district creates from its records. The parent login guide covers each one.

Teachers and staff

Your district's Schoology administrator creates staff accounts. Personal teacher accounts can no longer be created. See the teacher and staff guide.

What happened to free personal accounts?

Schoology used to offer free "Basic" accounts that any teacher, student or parent could create. PowerSchool ended Basic access on October 1, 2023, said it could not reinstate closed accounts, and deleted Basic content after the cut-off (PowerSchool Community). Websites that still describe a free public sign-up are out of date.

Schoology vs. your school's student information system

Schoology is a learning management system: courses, assignments, materials, discussions and messages. A student information system (SIS) holds official records such as report-card grades, attendance and schedules. PowerSchool makes both kinds of product, but many Schoology districts use a different SIS, such as Skyward, Infinite Campus or Focus.

That's why a district may tell parents that Schoology grades aren't official. Fort Bend ISD, for example, says Skyward remains the official record for grades (Fort Bend ISD).

Frequently asked questions

Is Schoology a student portal?

It is a learning platform rather than a records portal. Students use it for classwork. Many districts also have a separate student or parent portal for official grades and attendance, and some link Schoology inside that portal.

Is Schoology free?

There is no cost to students or families. Schools and districts pay PowerSchool for Schoology Learning and give accounts to their students, families and staff.

What is Schoology Plus?

Schoology Plus is a browser extension made by an independent developer, not by PowerSchool. It is not a separate version of Schoology, and it has no login of its own. Some schools block unofficial extensions. Be careful with any extension that asks for access to your school account.
