Schoology Sign-In Methods: Google, Microsoft, SSO and Clever

You can sign in to Schoology with Google, Microsoft or Clever only if your school set that up. Start from your school's Schoology address, your district portal, or SSO Login on the official page, not the email and password boxes.

Your school chooses the sign-in method

Single sign-on (SSO) means one school account opens many apps. Your school connects Schoology to the account system it already uses: Google, Microsoft or its own sign-in page. That choice is made by the district, so you can't switch to a different method yourself, and not every school offers every method.

The rule that fixes most problems: start from your school's route, not the email and password boxes. Open your school's Schoology address or district portal, or choose SSO Login on the official page and pick your school.

Schoology login with Google

If your school uses Google accounts (often called Google Workspace for Education), signing in usually looks like this:

  1. Open your school's Schoology address, or choose SSO Login on app.schoology.com/login and find your school.
  2. A Google sign-in screen appears. Choose or enter your school Google account, not a personal Gmail address.
  3. Approve any first-time prompt. Some schools mention a one-time screen asking you to allow the connection.
  4. Schoology opens. Next time, if you're already signed in to your school Google account, you may go straight in.

Separately, some schools ask students to link a Google account inside Schoology so they can attach Google Drive files to assignments. That is a different step from signing in.

Schoology login with Microsoft 365

Districts that use Microsoft accounts send you to a Microsoft sign-in page. Enter your full school email address, then your school password. Springfield Public Schools, for example, sends students from its Schoology address to a "sign in with Microsoft" page that takes their district email (Springfield Public Schools). Fort Bend ISD students also sign in with their district Microsoft 365 email and network password (Fort Bend ISD).

Other district single sign-on

Some districts use their own sign-in page instead of a Google or Microsoft screen. It usually shows the district's name and logo. Before you type a password, check the address bar: it should belong to your district or a sign-in provider your school names. If you aren't sure, ask your school which page is genuine.

Clever and ClassLink portals

Clever and ClassLink are portals that hold many school apps in one place. If your district uses one, sign in to the portal first, then click the Schoology tile. Seattle Public Schools tells students to sign in to the Clever Student Portal with Microsoft and then select Schoology (Seattle Public Schools). Fort Bend ISD lists Schoology in its ClassLink-based 1Link portal.

Some portals also offer badge or QR sign-in for young students. Use the method your teacher shows you.

Signed in with the wrong account?

This is the most common Google and Microsoft problem. Browsers remember accounts, so a personal account or another family member's account can be picked automatically. Signs include a loop back to the sign-in page, "you don't have access", or Schoology opening with someone else's name.

  1. Open a private or incognito window and sign in from your school's route. Clarence Middle School suggests this for home sign-in problems (Clarence Central School District).
  2. Sign out of other Google or Microsoft accounts in that browser, then try again.
  3. Give each person their own browser or browser profile on a shared computer. Seattle Public Schools asks families who share a device to use different browsers (Seattle Public Schools).
  4. Start from your school's own Schoology address rather than the general site. One university's help desk explains that this makes its single sign-on pick the right account (Clarks Summit University).

Frequently asked questions

Can I log in to Schoology with my personal Gmail?

Not for a school account. Schools connect Schoology to the accounts they manage, so you need your school Google account. A personal Gmail address only works if it is the email on a parent account you created yourself.

Why doesn't my school email and password work in the email boxes?

If your school uses single sign-on, your account usually has no separate Schoology password. Choose SSO Login or open your school's Schoology address instead, and sign in on your school's Google, Microsoft or district screen.

Do parents use SSO?

Usually not. Most parents sign in with the email or username and password of their own parent account, or through the district's parent portal. A few districts connect parent accounts to their portal, which works like single sign-on.

Is single sign-on safe?

Yes, when you sign in on the genuine page. SSO means you type your password only on your school's sign-in page instead of on every app. Always check the address bar, and never type your school password on a site you reached from an unexpected link or ad.
