Schoology Login Help: Why You Can't Log In and How to Fix It
First check that you're on the right page for your type of account, then work through the fixes below. Account, password and access problems on school-managed accounts can only be fixed by your school.
Start here: which page are you on?
Most failed logins come from using the wrong route. Find your situation:
Student or staff member
- Does your school give you its own Schoology address or portal?Use it, or choose SSO Login on the official page and search for your school.
- Not sure?Ask your teacher or school help desk for the address. Don't guess with the email and password boxes.
- Still failing?Passwords and access for school accounts are fixed by your school. See problems only your school can fix.
Parent or guardian
- Did you create your own Schoology parent account?Sign in at
app.schoology.com/login, or use Forgot your password. - No?Use your district's parent portal, or ask the school for a Parent Access Code.
- Still failing?Work through the fixes below, then contact the school.
Wrong username or password
- Check whether your username is your email address, a student ID or something else your school assigned.
- Check Caps Lock and the keyboard language.
- If your school uses single sign-on, your Schoology password may not exist at all. Use your school's route instead of the email and password boxes.
- After several wrong tries, district accounts can be locked for a time. Wait, or ask your school.
Resetting your password, by account type
| Your account | How to reset |
|---|---|
| Parent account you created | Choose Forgot your password on app.schoology.com/login and enter the email you signed up with. Check your spam folder. |
| Student or staff account with SSO | Use your district's password tool or ask your school help desk. Schoology's reset email won't apply. |
| Account with no email address | Your teacher or school admin resets it. PowerSchool's community team explains that the reset link only works with an email on the account. |
| Parent account through a district portal | Reset it in the district portal (for example, Fairfax County parents use the district's password page). |
If a reset email never arrives, PowerSchool's community moderators recommend contacting your school or district's Schoology administrator directly.
Wrong school or login page
The general page app.schoology.com/login works for everyone, but school accounts usually need the SSO Login option or the school's own address. If you choose the wrong school in the SSO search, you'll reach a sign-in screen that doesn't know you. Go back and pick the right school, or use the address your school gave you. Our district directory lists verified district routes.
Google, Microsoft and SSO errors
Loops back to the sign-in page and "you don't have access" messages usually mean the wrong account is signed in to the browser. Try a private window, sign out of other accounts, or use a separate browser profile. Full steps are in signed in with the wrong account.
Browser, cookies and settings
- Schoology's system requirements call for a supported browser with JavaScript and cookies enabled (Schoology Support). Update your browser if it's out of date.
- Clear cookies and cached data for schoology.com (and your school's Schoology address), then sign in again.
- Turn off browser extensions that change Schoology pages, then try again. Some schools block unofficial extensions.
- Try another browser, or a different device, to see whether the problem follows your account or your computer.
- On school Wi-Fi or a library network, some filters can block sign-in pages. Try another network if you're allowed to.
App problems
- Update the official Schoology app (published by PowerSchool Group LLC) and your phone's operating system.
- Sign out of the app and back in, choosing Sign in through my school if you're a student.
- Password resets happen in a web browser, not in the app.
- If the app keeps failing, use a mobile browser instead. Some districts recommend the browser for students. See the app guide.
Problems only your school can fix
Some problems can't be fixed from your side, and no outside website can fix them either:
- Your account hasn't been created yet, has been turned off, or is locked.
- A course or group is missing from your list.
- Your school-managed password needs to be reset.
- You had a personal Schoology Basic account; PowerSchool closed those on October 1, 2023.
When you contact your school's help desk or a teacher, include your full name, school, what you tried, and the exact error message or a screenshot. Never send your password.
Is Schoology down? If several people at your school can't sign in at once, the problem may be with Schoology or your district's sign-in system. Your district's technology page or help desk is the best place to check status.
Frequently asked questions
Can SchoologyLogin.com reset my Schoology password?
No. We are an independent guide with no access to Schoology accounts. Only you (for a parent account you created), your school, or your district can reset a Schoology password.
Why did my Schoology account stop working after the summer?
Districts often update accounts between school years: students change schools, courses roll over and old accounts are archived. If your login stopped working at the start of a new year, ask your school whether your account or courses have been set up for this year.
Why does Schoology say I don't have access?
Usually you're signed in with an account your school doesn't recognize, often a personal Google or Microsoft account. Sign out of other accounts or use a private window. If you once had a personal Schoology Basic account, that access ended on October 1, 2023.
